Experimental Los Angeles performing artists offer adventurous new works and works-in-progress in this ongoing series. The Summer 2012 edition of Studio was curated with guest curators Laurel Kishi and Jesus Reyes, and features works by Jon David Casey, Jamie Peterson/The Paper Industry, Ladies and Gentlemen, Pam Gonzales Dance, Waewdao Sirisook and Storytelling Band.
A multimedia solo work written and performed by Ugandan American artist Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, A Missionary Position is a searing response to the rampant homophobia now gripping Uganda. Mwine layers raw video footage and photography with riveting portrayals of Ugandan gay prostitutes, gay priests and LGBT activists.
