Directors' Statement

REDCAT is entering 2010 with a bold and international cultural agenda.

Influential artistic voices from more than 30 countries ignite our theater, gallery and lounge this spring, making their singular contributions to the evolution of contemporary visual, performing and media arts.

It’s been just over six short years since California Institute of the Arts launched REDCAT as a downtown center for contemporary culture, and we are proud to be building on CalArts’ 40-year legacy of artistic risktaking and exploration. With attendance up more than 25% so far this programming year, you remind us that the work we do matters to you more than ever.

Our young and diverse audience benefits from generous season sponsorship by Ovation TV and The Standard Hotel Downtown—as well as vital contributions from individuals and foundations that have joined our great REDCAT Circle of supporters, including our valued members.

We hope that you will be moved and engaged when you experience the innovative, forward-thinking artists who are making REDCAT their laboratory and home. We invite you to join us for the adventure!

Thank you,

Mark Murphy, Executive Director
Clara Kim, Gallery Director/Curator
