President's Message
REDCAT builds on CalArts’ longstanding commitment to exploring new possibilities and nurturing fresh voices across the arts. At the heart of this effort is our faculty of 250 artists and scholars, supplemented each year by an equal number of visiting artists. At REDCAT, the programming staff draws on this deep resource as well as on its own worldwide network to put Los Angeles artists and audiences into ongoing dialogue with today’s most resonant artists and fruitful new directions in the arts.
Our students and faculty—under the umbrella of the CalArts Community Partnership (CAP)—each year extend that commitment by working with numerous schools and community arts center to bring intensive pre-college arts instruction to more than 7,500 underserved youth across the Los Angeles Basin. This year CAP celebrates its 20th anniversary. It’s fitting then that REDCAT this season is featuring not only the annual REDCAT International Children’s Film Festival and a series of culminating CAP performances, but also such special offerings as Brazilian choreographer Bruno Beltrão’s Grupo de Rua and the Santa Ana youth dance company The Wooden Floor.
Join us at REDCAT and engage with today’s and tomorrow’s most accomplished, most promising artists from Los Angeles, from across the United States, and from throughout the world.
