Betontanc: Wrestling Dostoevsky

West Coast premiere
The Sharon Disney Lund Dance Series

his high-velocity dance theater work from the internationally acclaimed Slovenian ensemble tells a compelling tale of love rich with passion and violence, accompanied by a zesty live music performance. Staged “in the round” on a set strewn with household lamps and antique carpets, Wrestling Dostoevsky features stunning performances by the six young dancers of Betontanc (“Concrete Dance”), whose inventive and intensely physical sense for movement is driven by provocative texts by Dostoevsky and music by the Ljubljana group Silence.

Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. Produced by BUNKER Productions in collaboration with Schauspielhaus, Vienna, with the help of: KUD Opoka Gorika Brda and L’animal a l’esquena, Centre Creaciao Celra. The performance was made possible by the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia and the City Council of Ljubljana, Department of Culture. U.S. performances are made possible by the Trust for Mutual Understanding, European Dream Festival and the Consulate General of Slovenia.
