Charlie Haden
"Recognizing beauty’s humanizing power, Haden has cultivated it in ways few others attempt... His work resonates with a deep, eternal quality." L.A. Weekly
The legendary jazz bassist, composer, bandleader, educator and all-around innovator is joined by a CalArts ensemble for a special concert of music by his storied Liberation Music Orchestra. Showcasing selections from the recent album Not in Our Name, the ensemble serves up a heady mix of impassioned, lyrical and -- above all -- righteously swinging music. This performance is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Jazz Studies Program founded by Haden at CalArts -- where successive generations of musicmakers have earned worldwide recognition for pushing the outer limits of jazz.
