Diana Szeinblum

Diana Szeinblum: Alaska

"A delicious surprise… a work of impressive craft and imagination." The New York Times

Los Angeles premiere
The Sharon Disney Lund Dance Series

Presented in partnership with Skirball Cultural Center's Viva! Series

Fiercely sensuous, alluring, and brimming with dark humor, the latest work from award-winning Argentine choreographer Diana Szeinblum combines a custom-crafted language of expressive movement with a swirling live score and stark theatrical staging to conjure an Alaska of the mind -- "that place we all recognize, but where nobody has ever gone." The Pina Bausch-trained, Buenos Aires-based Szeinblum works with a cast of dancers and musicians for every new work, building each narrative through a unique movement vocabulary. In Alaska, she applies her rigorous approach to exploring relationships among four characters and the notion of "interior space."

Made possible in part by Performing Americas, a partnership between the National Performance Network (NPN) and the Network of Cultural Promoters of Latin America and the Caribbean (La RED) designed to increase artistic exchange in the Western Hemisphere. Performing Americas is supported by the NPN and funding provided by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the Ford Foundation for the United States component of the initiative. For more information, visit npnweb.org.

The Skirball Cultural Center's series Viva! Celebrating the Americas, is an ongoing initiative that explores the connections between Jewish and Latin American Cultures through lectures, conversations, performing arts, visual arts and media arts. www.skirball.org
