An Evening with Mani Kaul

An Evening with Mani Kaul

Jack Skirball Screening Series

One of the pioneers of New Indian Cinema in the late 1960s and early '70s, Mani Kaul has produced a singular, visually arresting body of work. Expanding the formal experiments first introduced in Uski Roti ("Daily Bread," 1970), the filmmaker has created a unique blending of the documentary and fiction forms while developing a signature cinematic style that draws on painting, theater and music (Kaul himself is an accomplished musicians and painter). His films have been widely screened at festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam and Pesaro, as well as at major venues such as MOMA in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Co-sponsored by Bank of America, Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Los Angeles County Arts Commission and The Walt Disney Company.
