Festival of Contemporary Dutch Music

Featuring the CalArts New Century Players and the California E.A.R. Unit

"The New Century Players perform with wonted skill and poise; one hears the music and doesn't worry about the very real difficulties of executing it." Los Angeles Times

"Triumphantly out there... The California E.A.R. Unit is known for taking left turns away from convention." Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles Premiere

One of the most vibrant and eclectic music hotspots in Europe, the Netherlands boast an exceptional wealth of up-and-coming innovators who are busy expanding not only the heterogeneity and freedom of contemporary musical content — but also the role of music and concert programming in society. This weekend festival is devoted to the work of some of today's brightest Dutch composers — artists who are exploring new and unprecedented creative horizons as diligently as they are dispensing with the convictions and values of yesteryear. The CalArts New Century Players will be performing works by Michel van der Aa, Antoine Beuger, Dante Boon, Rozalie Hirs, Christina Oorebeek, Edward Top, Matijs de Roo, Joey Roukens, Giel Vleggaar, Peter-Jan Wagemans, and Robert Zuidam. The California E.A.R. Unit follows with an early Sunday evening concert, featuring pieces by Yannis Kyriakides, Mayke Nas, Martijn Padding, Jacob ter Veldhuis and Diderik Wagenaar.
