Featuring Edison Studio
"A compelling accompaniment to this silent classic. Richly layered and aggressively beautiful, this is truly a marvelous and masterly piece of work." Computer Music Journal
The Rome-based music collective Edison Studio gives a live electro-acoustic performance to accompany a screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Robert Wiene's 1919 landmark of Expressionist cinema. Composed and performed by Mauro Cardi, Luigi Ceccarelli, Fabio Cifariello Ciardi and Alessandro Cipriani, the live soundtrack uses computers, MIDI keyboards, samplers, percussion instruments and resonant sounding objects to connect with, and respond to, the expressive and symbolic world depicted in Wiene's film. Presented jointly by the Southern California Resource for Electro-Acoustic Music (SCREAM) and REDCAT.
Funded in part by CEMAT (Centri Musicali Attrezzati, Rome); SONORA, in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Italy; and IIC (Instituto Italiano di Cultura, Los Angeles)
