Virtuosic dancers share intimate or volatile moments, floating in a shifting landscape of veils, shadows, and changing light, in acclaimed choreographer Rosanna Gamson’s kinetic investigation of the neuroscience of dreams. Performed by six dancers, Still is rich with tender and violent movement, explosive athleticism and stunning moments of stillness. The action is set against an eclectic sonic landscape of viola, cello, and violin music ranging from French 17th-century court composer Marin Marais, to new world post-rock band instrumentals.

Choreographer Lindsey Lollie’s Interval, a re-staged work for nine dancers with an original score by Paul Matthis, is a collage of visceral and improvisational movement exploring the overwhelming sensations and thoughts provoked by mind-altering substances. 

These nine animated and one live action films have been assembled to remind us that our planet is a beautiful place, filled with magnificent creatures and fragile ecosystems, and that its fate hangs in the balance.  Let’s change the future!

As in the film that inspired it, Luchino Visconti’sRocco e i suoi fratelli (Rocco and His Brothers), the artists expose both physical and psychological extremes in this powerful work that received Holland’s prestigious SWAN Award for Best Dance Production of 2012.

Fly away to a wonderland of international animation full of eye-popping color, catchy tunes and sweet stories that will take parents and kids to the moon and back.

From poignant stories of friendship, to fantasias about fluttering insects, to a fable of life in the Andes, these films will take you on a journey to beaches, back roads, jungles, mountaintops and bustling cities throughout Latin America.

Choose a ringside seat for this intensely physical dance event set in a stylized boxing ring, where choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter Scholten put dancers face to face in a suite of bouts that are exhilarating, exhausting and deeply poignant—inspired by Luchino Visconti’s Rocco e i suoi fratelli (Rocco and His Brothers). 

Differences make the world go ’round in this program of live-action and animated films, filled with characters who learn to celebrate what makes them special.

In an intoxicating blend 
of strutting, voguing, and extravagantly outré fashion set to dance music with deep bass, Trajal Harrell’s all-male exploration of a classic tragedy takes off from the question: What if the Harlem ball culture of the 1960s had paraded into downtown New York’s early postmodern dance scene?

The vocal stylings of mesmeric frontman Timur Bekbosunov join with haunting experimental chamber music and post-punk cabaret in the world premiere of Collapse, an operatic song cycle composed as a requiem mass by Daniel Corral, with video projections live-mixed by Jesse Gilbert and costumes by Victor Wilde.

One of the most intriguing talents in American postmodern composition surveys four decades of adventurous musicmaking augmented by electronics and video, and a sneak preview of Psyche & Delia, LeBaron's seventh opera probing the cultural resonances of LSD.  

WORLD PREMIERE. The Wooster Group tackles Shakespeare’s dark and scabrous war play about sincere love corrupted and the downfall of a noble hero, reimagining the Trojans as a fictional tribe of early Americans struggling to assert its dignity in the face of doom. The piece originated as a co-production with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Los Angeles artist Miwa Matreyek's latest work fuses theater, animation and intricate shadow play to create fantastical kaleidoscopic vistas through the history of the earth, conjuring dreamlike scenes full of childlike wonder.

Two startling new documentaries attest to the growing decentralization of Chinese independent film—from an absurd human rights confrontation with police in a Jiangxi hotel to the expressionist portrait of an abandoned oil town in the Gansu highlands.

Brian Chase, John Colpitts and Ulrich Krieger—three innovators working the edges of rock and experimental composition—stir up pulsating soundscapes, at once intense and meditative, in a three-part program focused on just-intonation percussion instruments. 

Shot in the kitchens, bedrooms, weddings halls and mahjong parlors of New York’s Chinatown, Your Day Is My Night explores the immigrant stories that unfold in a “shift-bed” apartment—a domestic space shared, due to economic necessity, by people with no relationship ties. 

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Futurist Intonarumori, Luciano Chessa reconstructs the legendary instruments that Russolo built in Milan in the summer of 1913. As the first instruments capable of creating and manipulating noises through entirely mechanical processes, the "noise intoners" can be considered to be the original analog synthesizer, and ancestors to the electronic synthesizers used today.

A high priestess of performance and one of the sharpest wits of the era, Mx. Justin Vivian Bond cuts an indelible swath with vivid charms. Hailing from Maryland, Justin's transformation to a specifically queer performance artist began in San Francisco with a role in Kate Bornstein's play Hidden: A Gender. Kiki & Herb, Bond's demented cabaret act spawned with musician Kenny Mellman, ran for years downtown in New York, toured the UK, played Carnegie Hall (twice), the Sydney Opera House and was Tony-nominated for Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway. Since retiring Kiki, Justin has focused on writing original songs, many of them included on the forthcoming album Dendrophile, produced by Thomas "Doveman" Bartlett, which will be released April 4. An original musical, Arts & Crafts, co-written with Sandra Bernhard, also premieres at Joe's Pub in March.
