About

The year 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and the 100th anniversary of its forebear institution, Chouinard. In preparation of this milestone, the Institute will launch 50+50: A Creative Century from Chouinard to CalArts, an unprecedented artist-led scholarship endowment initiative. CalArts, in partnership with publisher Lisa Ivorian-Jones, will newly commission and sell artwork series and limited editions by a prominent group of alumni, representing a broad range of cross-disciplinary art-making.

We invite you to visit the inaugural exhibition of the first group of limited-series works in the REDCAT Gallery, featuring the following artists: John Baldessari, Anne Collier, Laddie John Dill, Joe Goode, Naotaka Hiro, Tony Oursler, Gala Porras-Kim, Stephen Prina, Barbara T. Smith, Carrie Mae Weems.

The exhibition is organized by Carmen Amengual (Exhibitions Manager, REDCAT; Art MFA ’16) and Michael Ned Holte (Faculty, School of Art, CalArts).

Leadership support for 50+50: A Creative Century from Chouinard to CalArts is provided by CROZIER. Additional support is provided by Collector Systems, providing cloud-based collections management, by Frieze, and by Joshua White, fine art photographer.
